A checkpoint will be held by the Long Beach Police Department at an undisclosed location in North Long Beach this weekend.

At the checkpoint, planned for between 7:00PM Saturday and 3:00AM Sunday, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers will be on the lookout for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, as well as proper licensing. Those caught driving under the influence can expect jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can add up to more than $10,000.

DUI checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, according to the LBPD.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided to the LBPD by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
