The Long Beach Police Department’s (LBPD) DUI Enforcement Team will deploy its DUI Saturation Patrol units this Friday, December 9 between 6:00PM and 2:00AM in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests, they announced today.
The last such patrol resulted in two arrests and 22 citations, according to the LBPD.
The state saw 1,155 DUI-related deaths and more than 24,000 injuries in 2014, the release stated. The LBPD has investigated 999 DUI collisions, which have claimed 10 lives and resulted in 344 injuries in the last three years.
Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment, and specialized officers will evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving, which now accounts for a growing number of impaired driving crashes, according to the release.
Funding for this DUI operation is provided to the Long Beach Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1’.
