Long Beach City College (LBCC) will be getting a newly renovated Building C, the space where the college’s future Nursing Program will be housed.

The 45-year-old building’s overhaul will cost about $11.65M and provide 23,000 sq. ft. of space that will act as a simulated hospital training program that looks more like a lavish Spanish villa than a local college campus building.

Highlights of the renovation include:

• a completely self-contained area with closed circuit cameras to monitor real time procedures in an expandable skills lab
• classrooms with computer and audiovisual equipment, allowing faculty to teach using a wide variety of media
• lifelike mannequin patients for students to practice taking vital signs, insert catheters and intravenous lines
• state-of-the-art data, telecommunications and electrical systems
• new faculty offices and conference rooms
• new landscaping, irrigation and building signage

The modernization is funded through Measure E bond monies, a $176M bond issue that was passed by voters in 2002, with a second $440M bond issue under the same measure passed in 2008.

The architect contract for Building C was awarded to BCA Architects. Construct One is the general contractor and the Cordoba Corporation oversees and manages all Measure E projects.
