Long Beach City College (LBCC) faculty will receive 3.5 to 4.5 percent salary increases this year, following Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees’ approval of a contract amendment between the college and its full-time faculty union, LBCC announced yesterday.

Faculty will receive raises on a sliding scale based on their academic degrees and length of service, effective today, as well as a one-time 2.5 percent bonus later this year, the college announced.

LBCC“The LBCC administration is pleased to have reached an agreement with CCA after several months of negotiations,” said Long Beach City College Executive Vice President Lou Anne Bynum in a statement. “Providing fair compensation is a top priority of this college, and we have been committed to increasing the pay levels for our faculty and making numerous updates to the CCA contract, while remaining fiscally responsible to the District as a whole. We believe the contract benefits both the faculty and LBCC.”

The Board was unanimous in their vote, which occurred on June 29, according to the release. Coupled with last year’s average raise of five percent, the agreement brings the two-year increase to nearly 10 percent for faculty members.

The faculty had previously advocated for a salary increase, most recently with a display at LBCC in early May.

In addition to raises for salaried faculty, hourly pay for faculty assignments above contracted duties was increased to more than 12 percent and stipends were increased by more than 10 percent, according to the release.
