Located at the southwest corner of Atherton and Merriam Way, Cal State Long Beach (CSULB)’s new $12M Anna W. Ngai Alumni and Visitor Center will break ground later this year and renderings reveal what it will look like upon completion.

Being dubbed as a “functional oasis,” the 15,000 square foot building will be attached to an additional 5,000 square foot courtyard that will be simultaneously outdoor and indoor while harkening in design to the height of the mid-century modern movement.

Ngai, the largest donor and leader of the project, was long inspired by the embrace the university gave her after she came here as a foreign student from Hong Kong. However, after graduating and garnering success as a restaurateur, she realized that the university lacked a very specific type of space: one solely dedicated to alumni.

The project, already half funded through private donations, will also include a  banquet and conference center area for both students and alumni, according to CSULB. Additionally, an executive board room, an alumni “showcase lounge” with an attached library featuring university memorabilia and alumni exhibits, a Traditions hall, an Alumni hall will also be included in the project.
