The former president of Cal State Long Beach is under scrutiny over his handling of sexual misconduct allegations while serving as president of Louisiana State University.

Several national media outlets reported Wednesday that F. King Alexander, who led CSULB from 2006-2013, was placed on probation by the board at Oregon State University—where he has served as president since 2019—through June 1 over his role in the handling of allegations against Les Miles, the head football coach during Alexander’s time at LSU.

A report released on March 5 detailed failures by LSU to report cases of sexual misconduct and abuse, and said Alexander knew of allegations against Miles when he was hired as president in 2013, ESPN reported.

USA Today reported that during his probationary period, Alexander will be required to come up with an action plan outlining how he will rebuild trust at the Oregon campus.

During a lengthy hearing ahead of the Oregon board’s executive session, Alexander pushed back against the findings of the report, blaming budget cuts and said the problems at the campus were beyond his control, USA Today reported.

Alexander, however, released a public video statement late Wednesday night, telling survivors he is sorry and will immediately launch a review of Oregon State’s survivor support programs, ESPN reported.

Miles, head football coach at LSU from 2005 to 2016, was accused in 2013 of texting female students, taking them to his condo alone, making them feel uncomfortable and, on at least one occasion, kissing a student and suggesting they go to a hotel after telling her he could help her career, according to an internal investigative report released by LSU on Thursday.

He most recently served as head football coach at the University of Kansas, which cut ties with Miles this month.
