A bicyclist died Sunday after being hit by a car last week near El Dorado Park in East Long Beach, police said.

Bryan Lembke, 39, was killed as a result of the crash at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, police said in a statement today. Lembke lived in Long Beach, according to a relative.

Police said Lembke was riding in the middle of the No. 3 lane, traveling west on Spring Street. As he approached the San Gabriel River, he was struck from behind by a 2007 Honda Accord being driven by a Cypress man, 53, who was not identified.

The driver of the car stopped and was cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The bicyclist sustained major head and body trauma, and was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries five days later, police said.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Accident Investigation Detective Sirilo Garcia at (562) 570-7355.
