Long Beach firefighters extinguished three different spot fires that broke out across the span of about three acres of brush in the southeast corner of the El Dorado Nature Center on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The blazes started around 5:40 p.m. Firefighters quickly arrived and had the flames knocked down within about an hour, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk said.
Crews shut down Willow Street and off-ramps from the 605 Freeway near where the fires were burning.
During the fight, they called in assistance from the Orange County Fire Authority.

“What really made a difference was OC Fire Authority’s Helicopter 1 that made several water drops,” Fisk said.
The three fires charred about an acre of land total.
Firefighters battled a similar blaze in the Nature Center in April. That one was later determined to be arson. Wednesday’s fire was not in the same area as April’s, but officials are still investigating the cause, Fisk said.
