There’s a happy ending for the six pit bulls rescued by police officers on the 710 freeway early this year after the officers implemented a pit stop and the dogs ran from the car. At the time of the incident two months ago, dogs, two adult females and four puppies, appeared friendly and tried to engage the officers in play, and were transported to City of Long Beach Animal Care Services to await their fate..

The car’s driver, 47-year-old Tiffini Kuuipo Tobe of La Habra, was taken into custody and faced several charges, including a failure to show in court for a previous animal-abuse charge. Tobe posted bond and once more failed to show up to court; soon after, a bizarre sequence of events led to her death from apparent heart failure after she jumped out a window of a moving bus.

Following Kobe’s death and a joint investigation of the dogs’ ownership conducted by ACS, the Long Beach City Prosecutor and a number of law-enforcement officials, it was determined that the dogs could be put up for adoption. According to ACS Adoption Coordinator Jill Prout, each of the four puppies are now in permanent homes and the two adults, named Brittney and Honey, were pulled by spcaLA, which shares the P. D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village.

Anyone interested in adopting them can visit spcaLA and mention the dogs’ names and ID numbers. spcaLA is located at 7700 East Spring Street, Long Beach, at the entrance to the El Dorado Nature Center. No parking fee is required to visit the Village.
