Girl, 14, in critical condition after being struck by car near East Village

A 14-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition after she was struck by a car whose driver had already crashed into three vehicles in a Long Beach parking lot, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 11:25 a.m. Saturday at Alamitos Avenue and Broadway, Long Beach police Lt. Brian McPhail said.

Long Beach firefighters took the girl to a hospital, where she was in critical but stable condition, McPhail said.

The woman driving the car, a red sedan, was also taken to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, he said.

Drug or alcohol impairment was not a factor in the crash, according to McPhail said, who said officers are still investigating.
