A man was struck by gunfire in West Long Beach Friday night, police said.
At around 10:10 p.m. Friday, police got a call about a man shooting a firearm into the air near the 1400 block of Santa Fe Avenue. The incident was later determined to be a shooting where a victim was struck by gunfire.
Officers investigating the scene found evidence of a shooting, including bullet casings, but they were unable to locate a suspect, police said.
While officers were investigating, they received a call from a local hospital that a man had just arrived and appeared to have been shot, police said.
The victim told police the shooting did occur near the 1400 block of Santa Fe Avenue. The wounded man is expected to survive, police said.
Police are investigating the shooting, but could not provide details on a motive or a description of a suspect.
