UPDATE | A downtown Long Beach restaurant and nightclub that was forced to close last Wednesday due to the discovery of dozens of live roaches in multiple areas of the facility re-opened Saturday, according to health officials.
Inspectors had found about 30 live cockroaches at Cafe Sevilla, located at 140 Pine Avenue, during a routine health inspection last week.
Leila Judd of the Long Beach Department of Health & Human Services said the business was reinspected Saturday, and the health permit was reinstated at that time. Cafe Sevilla was approved to resume business operations that day.

Inspectors found about 30 live roaches at Cafe Sevilla, located at 140 Pine Avenue. The vermin was located in the kitchen, near the employee break room, a storeroom and under a freezer among other places, according to a health report, which specifically cited the vermin infestation as the cause of the business’s temporary closure. About 10 fruit flies were also observed in the downstairs bar area.
The report listed other violations, including damaged utensils and equipment, leaking faucets throughout the facility, improperly maintained trash and damaged walls.
The facility was re-inspected Friday but remained closed.
