Drop off your barely-worn, gently-used or brand-new shoes to His Little Feet, Inc. (HLF) and know that your contribution will absolutely make a student’s day, week, month and possibly their entire school year. The Long Beach-based nonprofit organization is hosting a back-to-school shoe drive starting today, August 10, through August 21. They are gladly and gratefully collecting new or used shoes in sizes ranging from 10T to adult 10.
The shoes will be reconditioned as necessary and promptly distributed to students at Jane Adams Elementary School in north Long Beach, according to the announcement. HLF is also collecting school uniforms and children’s books.
“We’re stomping out poverty in our community, one pair of shoes at a time,” said HLF founder Hali Wolf in a statement. “I’ve seen children in the economically-impacted areas of Long Beach attending school with shoes that were very badly worn, held together with tape or rubber bands or didn’t fit properly because they were too small.”
She said the nonprofit has received dozens of letters of gratitude from the students’ whose lives were improved simply by receiving a decent pair of kicks.
HLF has donated over 1,220 new and reconditioned pairs of shoes since the organization was founded in January 2014, while 225 uniforms and 550 children’s books have been given to local children in need.
According to the announcement, HLF’s immediate goal is to serve Long Beach Unified School District students in need, while their ultimate endeavor is to grow the program to include economically-impacted schools throughout all of Southern California.

Free news isn’t cheap.
We believe that everyone should have access to important local news, for free.
However, it costs money to keep a local news organization like this one—independently owned and operated here in Long Beach, without the backing of any national corporation—alive.
If independent local news is important to you, please consider supporting us with a monthly or one-time contribution. Read more.
