Hundreds gathered in front of Long Beach City Hall this morning to participate in a nationwide demonstration for marriage equality.  The event was organized by The Center Long Beach and featured several speakers including Executive Director Kim Woods, City Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal and recent Assemblymember-elect Bonnie Lowenthal.

“We will continue, we will not stop,” Assemblymember-elect Lowenthal told the crowd.  “We’ll move forward together until the fight is won.”

Woods hosted the event, and urged the crowd not to lash out at those who supported Prop 8.  Only through peaceful protest, she said, can equality be reached.

“We can change not only California, but America,” Woods said.  “One step at a time.”
