Roughly 500 volunteers pitched in Monday to clean and landscape parks, paint murals and trash cans and spruce up yards of the elderly and disabled on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.

The 10th annual event—the largest service day in Los Angeles County—is organized by Leadership Long Beach, the Port of Long Beach, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles and the City of Long Beach plus numerous community and city organizations.

The work included 20 projects throughout the city, including Jordan High School, Downtown and Central Long Beach.
