Los Angeles County firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire that was sending a large smoke plume into the air in Lakewood this afternoon, authorities said.

The blaze started shortly before 1:30 p.m. in a garage on the 6300 block of Droxford Street, according to Sky Cornell, a spokesperson for the L.A. County Fire Department.

“The garage caught fire then it moved slowly into the house,” Cornell said.

Firefighters found no one inside the home and extinguished the fire by 1:50 p.m., he said.
