Housing advocate Norberto Lopez of Long Beach Residents Empowered spoke with the Post Tuesday about local laws helping struggling renters during the pandemic.

Lopez discussed the City Council’s efforts to extend an eviction moratorium to May 2021 and allow renters to repay any missed rent by July 2021. The council voted to craft the ordinance Tuesday night.

Lopez also touched on how tenants can defend themselves against landlord harassment, whether through payment intimidation or through unnecessary construction and shutting off utilities at some apartment complexes.
