Stephanie Lewis is named the new Long Beach City College (LBCC) Director of Adult Education, the school announced today. Lewis will oversee the Long Beach Adult Education (LBAE) Consortium implementation regional plan to improve local adult education.

Lewis, in addition to her new role, will collaborate with LBCC Career Technical Education (CTE) department heads to create non-credit courses aimed at providing adult students with entry level employment and community partners to help insure student success by providing seamless transitions to jobs and job advancements, LBCC officials said.

“Providing effective education options for adults in our community is a top priority for us,” said LBCC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Terri Long in a statement. “Stephanie has the innovation necessary to take us to the next level, with experience with cooperative partnerships with both educators and community partners that will lead to student success.”

Lewis was the Director of CTE and Academic Services for the Los Angeles Job Corps before coming to LBCC in May 2016. At LA Job Corps, she was responsible for developing career and academic pathways, and work-based learning opportunities for disadvantaged 16- to 24-year-old youths, according to school officials.

Lewis began her profession as a CTE instructor when she worked with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Division of Adult and Career Education. She ended her work there as a Manual Arts-Crenshaw Community Adult School principal.

Lewis is a member of California Council for Adult Education and California Regional Occupational programs. She also serves as James A. Smith Postmaster Scholarship Foundation chairperson. She holds a bachelor’s degree in child development from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and a master’s degree in educational management with an administrative credential from the University of LaVerne.
