Long Beach firefighters Sunday morning extinguished a blaze that burned through a homeless encampment along the southbound 710 Freeway near Del Amo Boulevard, officials said.

The fire burned more than 5,000 square feet of the freeway embankment, which included the homeless encampment, said Brian Fisk, spokesman for the Long Beach Fire Department.

LBFD dispatched two fire truck engines to the scene at around 10:40 a.m. and firefighters extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes, he said.

No injuries were reported, and authorities were scene to investigate the cause of the fire, Fisk said.
