A Long Beach man involved in a three-vehicle collision on the Garden Grove (22) Freeway that resulted in the death of a 54-year-old driver in Westminster yesterday walked away unharmed.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred east of Beach Boulevard on the eastbound side of the freeway at around 2:40AM.

Officials reported that a 28-year-old Long Beach man driving a 2002 Ford Explorer entered the freeway from Beach Boulevard, lost control of his SUV, and spun out of control from the number five lane in a northerly direction, straight in the direction of the traffic lanes.

The Explorer then hit a 2006 Toyota Corolla, which caused the Toyota to hit a 1997 Nissan Quest. The Toyota driver, a resident of Orange, was declared dead at the scene.

The Long Beach man was not arrested in the incident, and it was not immediately known if he was cited. He suffered minor injuries, as did the driver of the 1997 Nissan.
