Long Beach Police Department Deputy Chief Richard Conant will rappel 17 stories down the side of the Hyatt Regency on November 19 as part of Over the Edge. The fundraising event will support SOSC athletes, provide equipment, uniforms and training.

“When schedules and time permit, the Special Olympics is a cause that we should all take care of when able to,” Conant said in an email. “I feel strongly about giving back to my community and the community at large. This is my small contribution.”

Though Conant has never participated in this event before he is a former SWAT team member and has been trained in rappelling and has been rappelled before as well.

No prior rappelling experience is required. A team of experts will assist participants the entire way, according to the event site.

Conant hopes to raise $1,000 in support for SOSC. To donate click here.
