In the spirit of educating the Long Beach community about minimizing the risks of obesity and related chronic diseases, the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (LBDHHS) Healthy Active Long Beach Program has partnered with the Junior League Long Beach (JLLB) to “Make a Great Plate!” during the 11th annual Kids in the Kitchen event.
Event-goers can sample a variety of healthy recipes, entertain themselves with educational games and interactive resources booths and participate in recreation activities. The event, held at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, will run from 10:00AM to 2:00PM on Saturday, March 12.
“This very important community event offers families an excellent opportunity to come together and have fun, and learn about health and wellness,” Mayor Robert Garcia said in a statement.
In addition to fitness and nutritious-food-related booths, a mobile unit will be on site providing free health screenings. The popular local band Jelly of the Month Club will also be on hand to serenade attendees.
About 1,500 children and their families are expected to attend this years’ event, according to the JLLB website.
Martin Luther King Jr. Park is located at 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach.
