An elderly woman who died after being struck by a car while attempting to cross a Lakewood street Sunday afternoon was identified by the coroner yesterday as Chong Hwa Lim of Long Beach.
Lim was crossing Bloomfield Avenue just south of Del Amo Blvd. at about 5:45PM when she was struck by a car described by witnesses as a Ford Crown Victoria. She had crossed in the crosswalk against a red light and the driver of the car, who had a green light, did not see her. Witnesses said that they believed Lim was afraid of missing a bus across the street. She died at the scene.
“It was just a complete accident,” said Lt. Alicia Malone at the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene. No charges are pending.
