Los Angeles County has improved its website, allowing easy access on multiple platforms, including various web browsers and mobile browsers.

The website, LACounty.gov, has been expanded to be accessible in about 100 languages, along with upgrading to a custom search function.

It also includes a custom emergency notification system, which scales responsiveness and public messaging based on the scope, size and severity of an accident. The website also features a live chat service, which will allow residents instant communication with public affairs staff.

“Increasingly, our residents are first turning to the internet as their primary source for information, with our website serving as a vital point of contact between the public and the County,” said David A. Summers, spokesperson for the county, in a statement. “With that in mind, we built a completely new digital front door, streamlining thousands of pages of information, down to approximately 150 informational pathways most frequently accessed by the public. The design and functionality of this new website was developed based on a months-long analytics review of how the public utilized existing web-based services from the County, followed by a two month construction period leading up to this week’s launch.”

Sommers said the county spent around $95,000 on the website, thanks to reductions due to it being largely built in-house. He said the county received bids from private vendors in the high six figures.
