Officers arrested a man who fired a handgun during an argument with a woman in Central Long Beach, Saturday night, according to Long Beach police.

At around 9:21 p.m., officers responded to a call about a shooting at East 21st Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and found the woman outside of a residence, police said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police said that the woman and the man, 55-year-old Nathaniel White of Long Beach, were involved in an argument that escalated into a “physical altercation” inside the residence. During the altercation, White allegedly produced a handgun and fired it, police said.

When officers arrived, they said they found White still inside the home. He was taken into custody without incident.

White was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm, and is being held on $50,000 bail, police said.

Police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
