A 30-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon near Cambodia Town in connection to the kidnapping of a 5-year-old boy, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Masai Williams Jr., a man experiencing homelessness in Long Beach, was booked on suspicion of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, residential burglary and attempted burglary after police say he kidnapped a boy after holding his father at knifepoint, according to the LBPD.

Officers arrived around 5:55 p.m. at the 1000 block of Lewis Avenue where the boy’s father explained that he was inside his home when Williams allegedly entered the residence, grabbed a nearby knife and brandished it toward him, LBPD spokesperson Brandon Fahey said. Williams then grabbed the victim’s 5-year-old child and carried him out of the house, Fahey said.

The boy was reunited with his family shortly after when he was located unharmed at a nearby neighbor’s residence, with police saying Williams left him behind before fleeing the scene.

Williams was subsequently arrested by the LBPD around 6:48 p.m. near the victim’s residence, booking log records show.

His bail was set at $100,000.

Police said there’s no evidence that the victims knew the suspect.
