A Long Beach man was arrested Wednesday morning in connection to a stabbing in Alamitos Beach that left a man hospitalized last month, police said.

Markos Emilio Apodaca, 23, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance and two outstanding warrants, following an investigation by violent crime detectives who identified him as the suspect in the stabbing, police said.

Police say the victim was in the area of Fourth Street and Bonito Avenue sometime around 11:47 a.m. March 29 when an assailant stabbed him in the upper and lower body.

Officers arrived shortly after but by then, the suspect had already fled the area, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The victim was transported by the Long Beach Fire Department to a local hospital where he underwent treatment for non-fatal stab wounds, police said.

Booking log records show Apodaca was arrested around 9:48 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, in the area of Fourth Street and Nebraska Avenue, nearly half a mile from where the stabbing occurred. His bail was set at $1.04 million, inmate records show.

Police say the victim did not know Apodaca prior to the assault and that the motive remains unclear. The investigation is still ongoing, LBPD spokesperson Richard Mejia said.
