A Hawthorne man was charged on Wednesday with the murder of 46-year-old Long Beach resident Ryan Pearson.

Kelly Anderson Bayloe, 49, remains in jail for last week’s killing on $2.05 million bail as he awaits arraignment on April 27, inmate records show. Bayloe also faces charges of being a felon in possession of a gun. He has not pleaded to any of the charges.

Police say Pearson was among a group of people who were in North Long Beach’s Coolidge Triangle neighborhood around 9 p.m. April 1 when they were approached by Bayloe. An argument ensued and Bayloe allegedly fired off a gun, striking Pearson in the upper body, police said.

Paramedics transported Pearson to a local hospital where died from his injuries. No one else was hurt during the incident, police said.

Bayloe fled the scene of the shooting before officers arrived, but he was arrested Monday following an investigation that led detectives to identify him as the gunman, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
