A Paramount man was charged Wednesday in connection to the shooting death of 36-year-old Adriana Silva outside her workplace in Long Beach’s California Heights neighborhood Monday morning.

Jose Luis Vidal, 47, is facing one felony count of murder in light of the shooting earlier this week. Vidal did not appear in court for his initial arraignment Wednesday, but a judge upped his bail from $2 million to $3 million.

Police say Silva arrived for work in the 700 block of East Wardlow Road before 8 a.m. Monday when Vidal confronted her inside her car and shot her. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Though Vidal was gone before officers arrived that morning, he later turned himself in to sheriff’s deputies in Paramount, authorities said.

It’s still unclear what may have prompted the alleged attack, although police said Vidal and the Silva had been dating and “were recently experiencing problems in their relationship.”
