Breakers04A man died Thursday evening after reportedly jumping from a high-rise in downtown Long Beach, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials said.

Authorities were dispatched to the Breakers of Long Beach—a retirement facility—on the 200 block of East Ocean Boulevard at 6:22PM where a man possibly jumped from  a higher level of the building, LBPD spokeswoman Megan Zabel said.

Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel determined the victim, identified as 23-year-old Long Beach resident Nelson Vincent, was dead at the scene.

The death is being investigated as a suicide, according to the coroner’s office.

The Breakers facility was sued this May in a class action lawsuit alleging misappropriation of rent funds for personal gains after facility officials knew its license would be revoked because of health, moral and safety violations.

The class action lawsuit comes after an elder abuse and wrongful death lawsuit was filed the week of April 27 this year, after the facility’s license was revoked, and residents received a 60-day eviction letter in late March.
