UPDATE | Authorities have identified a 22-year-old South Gate man killed over the weekend when he crashed his car into a tree in Long Beach, injuring his three passengers.

The collision happened just after midnight Sunday, on southbound Shoreline Drive, just north of the Broadway exit of the Long Beach (710) Freeway, where police discovered Christopher Delgado dead upon arrival, and his three passengers with critical injuries at the scene.

PREVIOUSLY: Man Dies in Long Beach Car Crash that Leaves 3 Passengers Critically Injured

10/24/16 at 11:58AM | A 22-year-old South Gate man was killed after he crashed his car into a palm tree while exiting the 710 Freeway in Long Beach over the weekend, according to authorities. His three passengers were critically injured.

Police were dispatched to southbound Shoreline Drive just north of the Broadway exit of the Long Beach (710) Freeway, regarding a single vehicle injury traffic collision at 12:05AM on Sunday, October 23, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Arriving officers found the vehicle in the grass center median just east of Shoreline Drive and north of the Broadway exit, officials stated. They located three critically injured passengers and the deceased driver.

The driver was determined dead at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel, who also transported the passengers to local hospitals.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the motorist, driving a 2002 Ford Focus, was traveling southbound on Shoreline Drive under the 6th Street underpass when he lost control for an unknown reason, traveled up onto the grass center median and collided with a palm tree, officials stated.
