A man was hospitalized Thursday morning with what police say appeared to be non-life threatening injuries he sustained when he crashed and flipped his car in Downtown Long Beach.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) responded to the injury traffic collision at the intersection of Seventh Street and Pacific Avenue at about 7:45AM, said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

The investigation found that a black Volkswagen Passat was traveling westbound on Seventh Street when it was struck in the intersection by a red Toyota 4-Runner that was traveling southbound on Pacific Avenue.

The Toyota flipped over due to the force of the collision and came to rest on Pacific Avenue south of Seventh Street, Arrona said.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, she said.

A passenger in the Volkswagen sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene.

Witnesses told police that the driver of the Toyota ran a red light. The driver was cited for running the red light, as well as for being unlicensed.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
