A 28-year-old Huntington Beach man was killed by a passing vehicle while crossing South Street in North Long Beach on Saturday, Long Beach police announced Monday.

According to a Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) release, officers were dispatched at 11:49PM to the 3300 block of South Street regarding a traffic collision in which a male pedestrian was hit and injured by a 1997 Honda Accord, driven by a 32-year-old woman, just west of Downey Avenue.

Police stated an initial investigation revealed the man was not within the confines of a crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle.

Officers observed Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics performing lifesaving measures on the man when they arrived, the LBPD stated. The man was later transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, one day after being admitted in critical condition.

The woman who had been driving the Honda Accord was interviewed at the scene and later released.

The pedestrian’s identification is being withheld, pending notification of kin, according to the LBPD.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to call Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail Detective Steve Fox at 562.570.7355.
