A man was hospitalized last night after being stabbed while walking in Downtown Long Beach, police said.

The stabbing occurred just after midnight in the area of Long Beach Boulevard and First Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police say the man was walking near the intersection when an “unknown male adult suspect” attacked him and then stabbed him in the upper body, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived at the crime scene and transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The suspect, meanwhile, fled the scene in an unknown direction, police said, adding that the investigation is ongoing. It’s not clear what prompted the attack.
