A man was in the hospital early Saturday morning after being stabbed with an unknown object in West Long Beach, police said.

The victim told police he was in the 1900 block of E. Pacific Coast Highway at 3:48 a.m. walking toward his car when he was approached by an unknown person who stabbed him in the upper body before fleeing the scene.

Officers said the wounded man drove himself home where a friend later took him to the hospital. He is expected to survive his injuries, police said.

Police are investigating but currently have no information on the suspect or what the motive of the stabbing was.
