9:10am | This past Saturday, November 26, at approximately 5:31 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) were dispatched to a shooting that had occurred in the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue which resulted in the death of an adult male.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found a male who had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso lying in the street. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded, but the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time he is only being identified as a black male in his 20s, pending a positive identification and notification to his next of kin.
The preliminary investigation indicates that words may have been exchanged between the victim and suspect just prior to the shooting, and the crime is being investigated as possibly gang related.
