If you want to report an illegally dumped mattress, a pothole or even illegal fireworks use without calling the city directly, you’ll need to download a new version of the Go Long Beach app after the city launched an updated version late last month.

While existing issues reported to the city can still be tracked through the old app, new complaints cannot be reported with it. Residents who grew accustomed to the convenience of reporting issues through their smartphones will have to download the new version according to a city memo released this week.

The new version allows for quicker reporting of some issues like graffiti and potholes, the ability to track other’s requests and a map of existing requests made by others citywide. The new version will also be fully available in Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog.

The memo released by the city noted that new topics and services offered in the new app would be based on community priorities that could include homelessness and fireworks.

Homelessness and fireworks use has been growing issues in the city and steps to address both through better outreach to connect those experiencing homelessness with services and as well as pursuing alternate methods of enforcing the city’s fireworks ban have been explored but the city.

The new app went live on Sept. 28 and is available in the Apple App Store as well as the Google Play Store for Android users.

Residents who do not have the app but still want to report issues can still call the city at 562-570-500 or by using the Go Long Beach website.
