A man died late Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle in Downtown, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

At about 11:10 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the area of Harbor Scenic Drive and Ocean Boulevard after a man was reportedly struck by a vehicle. Police say the man, who has not yet been publicly identified, was struck down in the roadway while trying to cross traffic lanes on foot under the Ocean Boulevard bridge.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel also responded and determined the man was dead at the scene.

The Police Department’s preliminary investigation identifies the driver as a 20-year-old Lakewood resident driving a 2013 Nissan Altima, who stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

Police say they do not believe speeding, distracted driving or driving under the influence to have been factors in the collision.

Officials have not yet identified the pedestrian and are awaiting an investigation by the Los Angeles County Coroner.
