A man died Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle in North Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

At approximately 5:22 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Market Street regarding a traffic collision. The preliminary investigation revealed that 33-year-old Los Angeles resident David Grace was driving a 2013 Lexus at a high speed eastbound on Market Street, according to authorities.

Meanwhile, a 62-year-old man, identified as a Long Beach resident, was pushing his disabled 1991 Dodge van alongside his 19-year-old daughter, when Grace struck the Dodge van, pinning the male victim between the Lexus and the Dodge.

The impact then caused the Dodge to collide into an unoccupied, parked Nissan truck, said officers.

While the 19-year-old daughter was not injured in the collision, the man was transported to a local hospital where he died, according to the LBPD.

Grace was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and had an expired license. He was booked for vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, according to police.

The pedestrian’s identity was not released as authorities work to notify the next of kin.
