Law enforcement officers participating in the 2011 Law Enforcement Torch Run are seen running east on Livingston Drive with a Special Olympian who is carrying one of three torches, or “Flames of Hope,” Friday, June 10.  This torch is one of three, all of which will be united to create a single torch at Cal State Long Beach on Saturday, June 11, during the opening ceremonies of the 2011 Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games. The annual Torch Run is the largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness campaign for Special Olympics Southern California, with last year’s effort raising about $1.2 million. The three legs of this year’s Torch Run began May 31 at different points in Southern California, with more than 300 different law enforcement agencies participating during the past two weeks. At its conclusion, the torch will have traveled 1,500 miles. The summer games run through Sunday, June 12. Photo by Allison Jean Eaton.
