Police are investigating two separate overnight shootings that left two people injured, including a woman in critical condition, authorities said.
The first shooting took place just before 11 p.m. Thursday in Central Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police say a man was walking in the area of Hill Street and Lemon Avenue, which is north of Martin Luther King Jr. Park, when he was approached by an unknown male suspect.
That’s when the suspect demanded that the man give him his belongings, according to police. Although the man complied, the suspect shot him anyway and then fled the scene on foot, the LBPD said.
When Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived, the man, who had been shot in the lower body, refused medical attention, police said, adding that his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. The man also declined to cooperate with investigators, the LBPD said.
The second shooting, according to police, occurred sometime around 5 a.m. Friday in the 5100 block of Via Veranada, which is near the Carmelitos housing complex.
There, a woman was standing near a residence, police say, when she was struck in the upper body by gunfire that came from an unknown direction.
LBFD personnel transported the woman to a local hospital in critical condition but stable condition, police said.
At this time, no further suspect information is available for either shooting.
