Police on Sunday were investigating the shooting death of a man in his 20s who was found lying near a service road in North Long Beach, authorities said.

The shooting was reported about 6:55 p.m. Saturday in the 6200 block of Downey Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.

Police identified the victim on Tuesday as Sirjohn Hardiman, a 21-year-old resident of Long Beach.

Officers found Hardiman lying on the ground near a service road with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he died early Sunday from his injuries, police said.

Police were investigating a motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting.
