Police on Tuesday were still searching for a man who sparked a nearly four-hour SWAT standoff near Long Beach’s Gumbiner Park Sunday afternoon after allegedly firing gunshots at a neighbor’s home.

Around 3:42 p.m. Sunday, March 6, officers responded to the 700 block of Olive Avenue after a resident in the area called and said their home had been struck by bullets.

“Responding officers determined a male adult suspect inside a nearby residence to be responsible for the shooting and attempted to make contact with him,” LBPD spokesperson Richard Mejia said.

When the suspect refused to exit the home, SWAT was called and helped officers establish a perimeter around the residence, Mejia said. Several residents around the scene were evacuated from their homes, Mejia said.

Others were told to shelter in place as police attempted to de-escalate the situation, he added.

When those efforts failed, officers served a search warrant and entered the suspect’s residence, police said. Upon entering the home, police located a gun but no suspect.

No injuries were reported during the shooting or the standoff, police said. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing, Mejia said.
