Tonia Reyes Uranga, former Long Beach councilmember and wife of newly-elected 7th District Councilmember Roberto Uranga has announced that she will run for the Water Replenishment District (WRD) seat opened due to the passing of Lillian Kawasaki last year.
Uranga, elected to represent the 7th District in 2002, re-elected in 2006, and ultimately failing as a write-in in 2010, will vie for the Division 3 seat of the WRD. The division covers seven cities: Long Beach, Lakewood, La Mirada, Artesia, Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens and Signal Hill, of which 68% of the division sits within Long Beach city limits
“I am excited at the possibility of serving on a governing board that will preserve, monitor and replenish safe, clean and accessible water for our area,” said Reyes Uranga in a statement. “Water quality and availability is a quality of life issue that has a tremendous impact on our neighborhoods, business community and economic growth.”
