The pool of candidates to fill the 3rd District Council seat climbed to five this week as Orange County attorney and Long Beach resident Susan Price announced her bid.
Price joins money-eschewing Stephen Bello, campaign veteran Martha Gibson-Flores, former Rescue Mission CEO Jim Lewis, and real estate executive Jack Rosenberg in the race.
“I am running for City Council because I want to bring energetic and imaginative leadership to our community,” Price said in a press release. “I want to help build a future in which we can raise our children in a community that is safe and gives them opportunities to thrive in a competitive educational and professional environment.”
Price currently serves as a deputy district attorney in Orange County, where she joined the OC District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) in 2005 following her work at the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. In 2008, she was selected to serve on the then-new OCDA Homicide Unit Vehicular Homicide Team to prosecute murder, vehicular homicide, and vehicular manslaughter cases.
Her most famous case was her successful prosecution against Andrew Gallo, the drunk driver who speeded through a red light in 2010 and murdered three people, including 22-year-old Angels pitcher Nicholas Adenhart.
A graduate of Cal State Long Beach–where she earned both her bachelors in Political Science and her masters in Public Administration and Policy–as well as obtaining her doctorate from Santa Clara University Law School, Price currently lives with her husband, Mark, and their two sons in Alamitos Heights.
“We need to work together to keep our streets safe, maintain the City infrastructure through development and repair projects and help our local businesses thrive and grow in the new eco-friendly marketplace,” Price said. “As a Councilwoman, I will have the opportunity to work on many issues that impact our unique district. I intend to focus my priorities on public safety, supporting business growth and creating jobs and maintaining a fiscally responsible city government while providing imaginative and innovative leadership.”
