The first piece of fitness equipment of the new Downtown Fitness Loop will be on display at the official groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, July 9 at 10:00AM, near the Shoreline Marina Office, south of Shoreline Village, the City of Long Beach announced Wednesday.

Guests will also be able to see the plans for the entire 4.8-mile loop, to be completed with distance markers, five active stations, such as pull-up/dip bars, and six passive stations for balancing, stretching and squatting.

“The Downtown Fitness Loop is our eighth free Fitness Loop in Long Beach,” stated Mayor Robert Garcia. “These easy-to-use outdoor gyms create a fun, accessible, and social environment where people of all fitness levels can enjoy exercising with top-quality equipment and stations.”

The Downtown Fitness Loop is bordered by Ocean Boulevard, East and West Shoreline Drive, Aquarium Road and Golden Shore, according to the release.

“This project has been on my bucket list the last few years and I am so glad to see it come full circle before I leave office next week,” stated Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal. “This enhancement to our Downtown area complements the beach pedestrian path and Bixby Park Fitness Loop. The more we provide convenient access to fitness equipment in the public space, the more we improve health and wellness within our community.”

Free outdoor fitness loops are also located at Admiral Kidd, Houghton, Coolidge, Orizaba, Bixby, Chavez and 14th Street Parks.

The Shoreline Marina Office is located at 450 East Shoreline Drive.
