Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (LBACC) President and CEO Randy Gordon has been elected president of the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House for a one-year term, the Ronald McDonald House of Long Beach announced Monday.
Gordon helped found the Ronald McDonald House over nine years ago, raising $6.2 million to build the 23-room House on the campus of the Long Beach Memorial Medical Care Center, according to the release.
“The House is built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focusing on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head that night to rest,” said Gordon in a statement. “We believe that when a child is hospitalized the love and support of the family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. I fell madly in love with this wonderful charity almost a decade ago and I’m so happy to be their volunteer President this year.”
In 2015, the House served over 600 families, the release stated. The House has served close to 10,000 family members since its opening in December 2011, and serves as a “home away from home” for families of children facing life-threatening illnesses at Miller Children’s Hospital. According to the release, the House provides hot meals for all overnight families and loved ones. No family is ever turned away.
“When my first grandchild was born at just three pounds and 12 weeks premature, I got the sense of what it must be like and how important it is for parents to be able to stay at very nice facility close to their child’s bed,” added Gordon.
The Ronald McDonald House is located at 500 East 27th Street on the campus of Long Beach Memorial Center. For more information, please call 562.285.4300 or visit www.rmhcsc.org/longbeach.
