One firefighter was taken to the hospital to treat a cut on his hand after crews doused an overnight blaze at a condo about a block north of the Recreation Park Golf Course, according to a fire official.

The blaze broke out around 12:30 a.m., and when crews arrived at the condo complex, flames were visible through one unit’s roof in the 1300 block of Park Plaza Drive, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Jake Heflin said.

Because of the intensity of the fire, crews called in backup. It took about an hour for them to douse the blaze, according to Heflin. The resident of the condo was able to escape without being hurt, he said.

Authorities still aren’t sure what caused the blaze. Investigators were there late into the night combing through the scene, Heflin said.
