Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews, the City of Long Beach Latino Employees Association and the Jenni Rivera Foundation have announced Rosie Rivera, the sister of the legendary singer Jenni Rivera, as the guest speaker at the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Week Event Latinos for Peace. The event will take place at 6:00PM on Thursday, January 14 at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

Rosie is the author of the recently written memoir My Broken Pieces: Mending the Wounds From Sexual Abuse Through Faith, Family, and Love. She is also an entrepreneur, philanthropist, evangelist and inspirational speaker and an advocate for victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. She made a name for herself appearing alongside her family on Jenni Rivera’s reality show, I Love Jenni and also starred in the show Rica Famosa Latina, according to the release.

“Rosie has become a breaking-free role model for all women,” stated Andrews. “We are honored to have her attend this event to give her testimony to enlighten others.”

She has continued her sister’s mission to help single mothers overcome abuse through the Jenni Rivera Love Foundation, while just last year, Rosie founded the Sister Samalia Movement to restore and elevate women who have been victims of sexual abuse, sex trafficking, drugs and domestic violence in Latin America. Through My Broken Pieces, Rosie opens up about her “hard-won triumph over tragedy, abuse and addiction.”

“Sharing my story in this very personal way, I hope to help inspire other women who have suffered abuse to persevere and know that there is always a way back to love,” stated Rosie.

Latinos for Peace will also feature a special musical performance by the talented Mónica Padilla. Jenni Rivera produced Padilla as the first singer on her label. In addition, The Rivera Family has been selected as Grand Marshals of the 28th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace & Unity Parade for their service to the Long Beach community. The parade will take place on Saturday, January 16.
