SCAN Health Plan and Ralph’s grocery store are teaming up to host a COVID-19 vaccine event Friday at SCAN’s headquarters near the Long Beach Airport.

The event is open to anyone 16 and older, regardless if they live or work in Long Beach, a SCAN representative said Tuesday. However, they will have to make an appointment through the Ralph’s pharmacy to ensure a spot.

The April 30 vaccine event will run from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and will distribute either the Pfizer or the Moderna vaccine, the spokesperson said, whichever is available that day.

Those wanting to sign up for a shot at the event need to visit the Ralph’s pharmacy link, enter the ZIP code (90806) for the Long Beach SCAN office and select that location before choosing an appointment time.

Persons signing up for appointments are encouraged to bring identification and insurance information, but insurance is not required to receive a shot.

If you’re unable to make it to the April 30 event there are several opportunities throughout the city to get a vaccine. The city most recently launched three mobile clinics serving the city’s west, north and central areas as well as offering walk-up appointments at the Long Beach Convention Center Monday through Saturday. Community Hospital is also holding free clinics from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Friday.

Appointments can also be made through local pharmacies and the state’s vaccine portal.

The SCAN headquarters is at 3800 Kilroy Airport Way north of the 405 Freeway near the Lakewood Blvd. exit.
